The Middle East region, which includes countries subject to the notice of Donald Trump, is one of the primary sources of patients traveling for medical care to the United States.
This notice will not only damage the patients but also the doctors and their hospitals prepared by the time to their arrival.
Many patients go for treatment for cancer, to receive orthopaedic therapies and other complex clinical treatments. “The cares that require the international patients usually tend to be specialized cares cannot be treated in their countries and neither outside the United States,” says Andy Garman, CEO of the National Center for Healthcare Leadership, a non-profit organization that runs a program of travel-medical tracking.
The US hospital centres have, in the medical tourism, an important source of income as well as a communication vehicle that can strengthen reputation abroad, bringing more patients. Moreover, the ban could push the international patients to avoid the United States as a medical destination and bring their money in other countries, as Germany or Thailand. This prohibition may lead even those people who are not subject to notice to worry if Trump decides to extend it to other countries, and decide to change destination.
