Intercare is the first International Fair about Medical Tourism organised in Italy and will be held in Milan from 25th to 27th May 2017It will be an important opportunity for dialogue, exchange and, of course, business, between the main players in this growing economic sector.
Owing to the economic importance that this sector can play not only for the Italian Health System, but also for the territories that host medical facilities, Intercare has already received the patronage of Regione Lombardia, which with more than 190 hospitals and five IRCCS, in addition to centres of excellence in various therapeutic areas such as oncology, cardiology and neurology, is one of the spearheads of the Italian Health System.
A very strong interest is also shown by market operators as AIOP – the Italian Association of Private Hospitals which includes over 500 Italian health facilities and is part of Confindustria (Italian Industrial Association) – which sees both the strong points in the Italian offer – as high tourism flows, medical and healthcare quality, strategic location, climate and a strong spa industry – and points of weaknesses – such as information gaps, bureaucratic difficulties and the underestimation of our Health System outside the country. “To overcome these obstacles,” is the opinion of Filippo Leonardi, CEO of AIOP, “it is necessary to map and valorise the inclusive supply of facilities and medical specialists, sign agreements with foreign insurance companies, create integrated pathways, activate a portal presenting the public and private offers already available. Only in this way, Medical Tourism will provide to all Italian Health System, and in particular to the private sector, an important development opportunity, because it does not require new resources, but a new effective and efficient way to enhance and organize them?
UEHP, the European Union of Private Hospitals, is also a patron of Intercare because, according to the Secretary-General Ilaria Giannico, “patient mobility is an opportunity for the private European hospital structures to offer competitive services to an informed user and reduce the waiting lists. UEHP is an active partner of Intercare, which positions itself as a real opportunity for everyone involved in the healthcare sector to share experiences and learn from others?
Thermal care is an important part of health tourism. For this reason, EHTTA, European Historic Thermal Towns Association, has joined the Fair: “We are an international network which brings together 40 members from 14 countries and, from 2010, is advisor of the Council of Europe to promote and valorise a European spa itinerary ,” says Chairman Giuseppe Bellandi “With these premises, EHTTA enthusiastically supports and participates to Intercare, a prestigious international showcase aimed at a global and at the same time, very professional market as Spa and Medical Tourism”
